Black Eyes

“You're not putting that thing on my boat," says Quint.

The boat is ready to go. Quint has his back to it. In front of him Brody and Hooper stand next to a big cage. The cage is over two meters tall and two meters across.

"Why not?" asks Hooper.

"It's too big," says Quint. "What is it?"

CHAPTER SEVEN

Meat in the Water

They leave at six in the morning. It is a very hot day and they sit out in the sun. Hooper sleeps in a chair with a hat over his face. Brody drops food for the shark into the water. Quint sits next to a fishing line and watches the sea.

Suddenly Quint says, "We've got a visitor."

The three men stand up. “Help me pull the line in," says Quint.

CHAPTER SIX

QUINT

“What do you think, Harry?" asks Brody. “Can this man Quint help us?"

"We can try him," says Meadows. "We don't have anything to lose."

"I don't think he can help," says Hooper.

“Do you have a better plan?" asks Brody. When Hooper does not answer, Brody picks up a phone book. “Here it is. There's only one ‘Quint’. And he doesn't have a first name."

CHAPTER FIVE

Shark!

The next few days are hot, and summer visitors from New York begin arriving in Amity.

Sunday is the twentieth of June. By twelve in the afternoon there are many people at Old Mill Beach. Children play near the water.

CHAPTER FOUR

Flicka

Brody sits on the beach and looks at the sea.

“Hello, Mr. Brody,” Hendricks says. He walks up to Brody. “What are you doing here?”

“Ben Gardner went out there this morning. He's looking for the shark. But I can't see him on his boat.”

“Was there anybody with him?”

“I don't know.”

The next day, I finished my work on the plane. I could fly home now. In the afternoon, I walked back to the well. The little prince was on top of an old wall near the well and I could hear his voice.

"Yes," he said, "it's the right day, but this is not the right place."

Another voice answered, but I could not hear the words. Then the little prince said, "Come to the right place tonight and wait for me. But please don't hurt me very much. Now, go away."

Then I saw something on the sand near the wall and I was frightened.

It was a yellow snake.

"Why did you talk to that snake?" I asked the little prince. But he did not answer…

CHAPTER NINE

THE WELL

Eight days after my plane crashed in the desert, I became very worried. I could not fly my plane and there was no more water. It was very hot and now I was very thirsty.

The little prince started to tell me more about his journey. "The fox ... ," he said.

"My friend," I said, "please don't tell me more."

"Why not?" asked the little prince.

"Because I'm very thirsty," I said. "I'm going to die because I don't have any water…"

THE FOX

"Please play with me," said the little prince to the fox. "I'm very sad and lonely today. My flower isn't special because she's the same as all the other roses."

"I can't play with you," said the fox. "You must tame me first."

"What does 'tame' mean?" the little prince asked.

"It means 'become my friend'," answered the fox. "There are lots of little boys and you're only one of them. You aren't very interesting because you aren't special to me. You must become my friend and become special. Then I'll play with you…”

CHAPTER SEVEN

THE ROSES

The little prince walked on through the desert and he met only one flower.

"Good morning," said the little prince.

"Good morning to you," said the flower.

"Where are all the people?" the little prince asked.

"People? I don't know," said the flower. "I see people sometimes, but they're difficult to find. They move with the wind, you know. Flowers stay in one place, but people move around. Life is difficult for them, I think."

"Goodbye," said the little prince.

"Goodbye to you," said the flower. The next morning, the little prince walked up a high mountain. "I will be able to see the whole planet and all the people from the top," he thought. But he only saw more mountains from the top of the mountain…
