Jen Brister is a British stand-up comedian, writer and actress. In this clip she is comparing the relationship that mothers have with their sons to the relationships that mothers have with their daughters. Spoiler: the relationships are not the same.

Now, I know I’m making a generalization here. I understand that. But I think, on the whole, this holds, yeah, that mothers and sons, very different from mothers and daughters. If I was to encapsulate that relationship - mothers and sons, right - it would be like this: “Mommy loves you very much. No, darling, you don’t do anything because mommy will do it for you. Now you listen here, mommy thinks you’re very special. You go out. You achieve. You do whatever you want, because mommy believes in you. Kisses for my very special boy. Kiss, kiss, kiss, kiss…” Mothers and daughters is a bit more like this: “You look fat in that.”
