CHAPTER SIX
Quint
“What do you think, Harry?" asks Brody. “Can this man Quint help us?"
"We can try him," says Meadows. "We don't have anything to lose."
"I don't think he can help," says Hooper.
“Do you have a better plan?" asks Brody. When Hooper does not answer, Brody picks up a phone book. “Here it is. There's only one ‘Quint’. And he doesn't have a first name."
Brody calls the number.
“Mr. Quint, this is Martin Brody from Amity Police. We have a problem."
"I know."
“The shark was here again today.”
“Did it kill anybody?"
'No, but it nearly took a boy.”
"It's a big fish. It eats a lot of food."
“Can you help us?" asks Brody. “This fish is killing people."
"I'll try to kill it for you," says Quint. “But it'll be four hundred dollars a day.”
“That's a lot of money!” says Brody. “There are other fishermen, you know."
Quint laughs. “Yes, you sent somebody out last week. And he's dead."
“Can you start tomorrow?"
"I need two men to help me."
Brody does not want to help. He does not want to go in a boat again. But he says, "I'll be there."
Quint laughs again. “Can you swim?"
“Yes. Why?"
“People sometimes fall overboard. And I want a second man."
Brody turns to Hooper. “Do you want to come?"
“Yes," says Hooper. "I want to see that fish."

“What do you think, Harry?" asks Brody. “Can this man Quint help us?"

When Hooper does not answer, Brody picks up a phone book.

“Here it is. There's only one ‘Quint’.

And he doesn't have a first name."

Brody calls the number.

"Eu vou tentar matá-lo para vocês," diz Quint.
“But it'll be four hundred dollars a day.”
"Mas será quatrocentos dólares por dia.”
“That's a lot of money!” says Brody.
"Isso é muito dinheiro!" diz Brody.
“There are other fishermen, you know."
"Há outros pescadores, você sabe."
Quint laughs.
Quint ri.
“Yes, you sent somebody out last week. And he's dead."
"Sim, você mandou alguém lá fora semana passada. E agora ele está morto."
“Can you start tomorrow?"
"Você pode começar amanhã?"
"I need two men to help me."
"Eu preciso de dois homens para me ajudar."
Brody does not want to help.
Brody não quer ajudar.
He does not want to go in a boat again.
Ele não quer ir num barco de novo.
But he says, "I'll be there."
Mas ele diz, "Eu estarei lá."
Quint laughs again. “Can you swim?"
Quint ri novamente. "Você sabe nadar?"
“Yes. Why?"
"Sim. Porque?"
“People sometimes fall overboard.

Brody turns to Hooper. “Do you want to come?"
Brody vira para Hooper. "Você quer vir?”
“Yes," says Hooper. "I want to see that fish."
"Sim," diz Hooper. "Eu quero ver aquele peixe."
